Privacy Policy

Noppup ("we," "us," "our"), operated by DonQuijotech LLC, is a desktop pet and personal-companion app for macOS. This policy explains what data Noppup handles, where it lives, and the choices you have. We've designed Noppup to keep as much as possible on your device and to collect as little as possible.
The short version
- Most of your data (journal, mood, habits, projects, sticky notes, focus sessions, settings) is stored locally on your Mac.
- If you create an account and turn on Cloud Sync (an optional Pro feature, off by default), that content is stored on our servers so it can sync across your Macs — and only you can access it.
- AI chat messages are sent to our AI provider to generate replies; we do not store your chat history on our servers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, we use no third-party analytics or advertising, and we never sell your data.
Information we handle
Account information
If you sign in, we store your email address and an account identifier. Authentication is handled by our backend provider, Supabase.
Content you create
Journal entries, mood check-ins, habits and completions, projects and tasks, sticky notes, focus/Pomodoro sessions, quotes, and app preferences. This is stored locally on your Mac by default. If you enable Cloud Sync (optional, Pro, off by default), the categories you choose are also stored on our servers (Supabase), tied to your account and protected so that only your account can read them. You can turn Cloud Sync off at any time and delete the cloud copy from within the app.
AI chat
When you chat with your pet, your messages are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude), to generate a response in real time. Your chat history is kept on your device; we do not store it on our servers.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by the platform you buy from — Apple (in-app purchases on the Mac App Store) or Stripe (purchases on noppup.pet). We do notreceive or store your card details. We store only what's needed to know your subscription status (e.g., an Apple original-transaction ID or a Stripe customer/subscription ID).
On-device context (never transmitted)
To let your pet react to what you're doing, Noppup reads local signals such as the active app, idle time, calendar events, whether the camera/microphone are in use, your current Wi-Fi network name, Focus mode, and screen brightness.
This is processed entirely on your Mac and is never sent to us or anyone else. You can disable any of these in Preferences → Context.
How we use information
- To provide and operate Noppup and its features.
- To sync your content across your devices — only if you enable Cloud Sync.
- To generate AI chat responses (via Anthropic).
- To process and validate your subscription (via Apple or Stripe).
- To send essential service messages, and optional updates if you opt in.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or tracking, and we do not sell or rent it.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms.
Data retention
On-device data remains on your Mac until you delete it or remove the app. Synced content (if enabled) is retained on our servers until you delete it, turn off Cloud Sync and choose "delete cloud copy," or delete your account. Chat history is retained on your device only.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Access and export the data associated with your account.
- Turn off Cloud Sync at any time, and delete the cloud copy.
- Delete your account and associated data by contacting us.
- Disable context sensors and other features in Preferences.
Depending on where you live (e.g., the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal data. To exercise any of these, email us at the address below.
Children
Noppup is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
